Ask the Translators #1

As we mentioned last week, the ESV Translation Oversight Committee (TOC) is meeting the first week in June 2005, and we want to give blog readers a special treat.

We’ve asked blogger Adrian Warnock to submit a list of questions to the TOC for them to answer during their meeting. Over on his blog he’s taking suggestions for the questions he should ask.

We’re confident that you and he will together come up with some great questions. The only constraint we’ve imposed is that the questions need to be about the ESV–not the ESV vs. another translation. We should also note that the TOC doesn’t determine when Crossway will publish specific editions of the ESV; if you want to know when a certain edition will be available, they probably won’t be able to provide you an answer.

The questions can be as broad as asking about the ESV’s translation philosophy or as narrow as why the TOC translated a specific verse the way they did. Don’t feel like you need to shy away from tough questions.

Head over to Adrian’s site if you have a burning question about the ESV you’d like answered. The deadline for the questions is next Thursday, May 26, 2005.

Update: Adrian has posted the questions on his blog. Thanks to everyone who made suggestions, and to Adrian for being willing to coordinate them.
