Read through the Bible on Your Blog

Annette at Fish and Cans writes about how she’s decided to conduct her Bible study on her blog to help keep her on track:

For the last two years I have followed a bible reading plan. And though I have found it helpful in getting me to read through the bible over the course of a year, I have found that I can’t just focus on something without breaking away from the plan, and then of course I get off track with reading.

To combat that a bit, last year I had started a private bible study with a couple of ladies, but that ended up not working out too well due to a variety of reasons. So when I was pondering what to do, I thought hmmm… why don’t I restart that bible study, but do it here. I do so love in-depth bible study. I love doing one-on-one bible studies, but have, as of yet, not found someone in my local area to do one with.

Maybe posting your reactions to your Bible reading on your blog will help you read the Bible consistently this year. Annette is working through 1 Thessalonians at her own pace. Similarly, you don’t need to blaze through the Bible just so you can say you read it in a year. You may find that you prefer reading the Bible at a more deliberate speed, meditating on and trying to understand shorter passages. And that’s OK.

“Family Worship in the New Year”

Jonathan at Doxologia writes about how he plans to improve his family’s worship time in 2008. Of the importance of family worship, he says:

My daughter seems to live in perpetual motion and so getting her to settle down for 5-10 minutes of bible reading, song, and prayer is difficult most of the time. As the husband and spiritual head of my family/home I have walked away from family worship sessions dejected, beaten, down-and-out, and left wondering if this is even doing any good…. However it is important for my 2 year old to see Daddy and Mommy consistently setting aside time during their day to seek their Sovereign and Omnipotent God and wanting to do so with joy and gladness.

Toward the end of the post, Jonathan links to several other pages with advice on family worship.
