Listening and Pausing Online Audio

The following audio tip is for the ESV Online Study Bible, although it works even if you haven’t registered for the full Online Study Bible. That is to say, anyone can access the full ESV text and audio from the Online Study Bible website.

(If you have a print edition of the ESV Study Bible you can enter your registration code for full access here. You also have the option to purchase online access for the notes and other Study Bible features.)

Listen to the ESV Audio

As long as your browser supports Flash and you have speakers, you can simply click “Listen” at the top of the screen (see above). The audio will start at the beginning of your selected passage.

Shortcut for Pausing

Once the audio is playing and fully loaded (the scrolling dots go away and the controller appears—this may take a while depending on the length of the passage), hitting TAB and then SPACE (alternately, not together) will pause the audio. Hitting TAB and then SPACE again will resume. If this doesn’t work, try pausing the audio with the mouse, to make sure the flash object is selected on the page. You can then scroll the page as you wish, using TAB-then-SPACE to pause and resume the audio at will.

Note: This also works on the ESV site.
