Religion Saves Reader Reviews

Mark Driscoll’s new release, Religion Saves: And Nine Other Misconceptions, has been reviewed by a ton of readers.  Here’s some of what they’re saying:

  • “These are not the random musings of an opinionated pastor; these are carefully researched and footnoted answers.” (Clayton)
  • “This book has continued Driscoll’s run of being biblically, theologically, and culturally relevant, which is a tough balance.” (Nathan)
  • “Pastor Mark will not water down the gospel for the sake of popularity or pleasing people.” (Deena)
  • “In just one chapter, this book has changed my life. I highly recommend this book.” (Danielle)

What Parents Are Saying About “What He Must Be”

Crossway’s homeschool book reviewers recently looked at What He Must Be . . . If He Wants to Marry My Daughter. This compelling apologetic of biblical manhood serves as valuable follow up to Voddie Baucham’s popular book, Family Driven Faith. By studying the principles outlined in his book, parents who want their daughters to marry godly men and their sons to become godly men will be well equipped to help their children seek and develop God-honoring qualities.

Here’s a great story from one of the reviewers:

“When I received the book for review, I immediately thought this was a book for Brian [husband] to read. Brian is not much of a reader (actually, he’s not a reader at all, unless he’s reading something to do with the dirt-track races or something written by Glenn Beck). So, when he told me there was a new Glenn Beck book out and that I could buy it at Amazon.com, I thought to myself, ‘hmm…this might just work…’

I ordered the book he wanted, but I gave it to him with an ultimatum . . . first, before he could read that book, he needed to read this one by Voddie Baucham, and let me know his thoughts on it. I didn’t think he would take me seriously, but HE DID! I noticed the book was missing; he was taking it along to work to read on his breaks. Each night, when he’s come home, I noticed the bookmark rapidly working it’s way through the book!

Brian started telling us things about the book—things he was reading and agreeing with, ideas that Mr. Baucham presents, etc. A few times, he even handed me the book and said, ‘hey, you have to read this!’ When it was all said and done, he said he’d like for me to read this book soon.”

Trackback Thursday with Graham Cole

9781581349726This week’s Trackback Thursday title is Graham Cole’s Engaging with the Holy Spirit: Real Questions, Practical Answers. Cole addresses some very real and very crucial question about the Holy Spirit from the Gospels, Acts, and the Epistles:

What is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit?
How does a person resist him?
Ought we to pray to the Holy Spirit?
How do we quench the Holy Spirit?
How do we grieve the Holy Spirit?
How does the Holy Spirit fill us?

Here’s a reminder of how the contest part works:  Simply link to the blog post from your blog, leave a comment on Crossway’s Facebook Page, or re-tweet Trackback Thursday on Twitter @Crosswaybooks. There will be three winners picked on Friday morning, one drawn from each medium.

An Inside Scoop on Endorsements

9781433507021What can an endorsement tell a reader about a book and its author? As Trevin Wax prepares for the upcoming release of Holy Subversion, he gives readers an insightful inside scoop on the motivation and implication of what he calls “blurbs,” or endorsements.

“But for me, the blurbs for my book mean much more than book sales. They represent a personal stamp of approval from the people whose opinion matters to me – people whose theology or ministry has influenced me,” Wax explains.
