Seeing and Savoring Jesus Christ on Trackback Thursday

1581346239John Piper has written this book in the hope that all will see Jesus for who he really is and will come to enjoy him above all else.

Here’s a short excerpt from Seeing and Savoring Jesus Christ (pp. 14):

The deepest longing of the human heart is to know and enjoy the glory of God. We were made for this. “Bring my sons from afar and my daughters from the end of the earth. . . whom I created for my glory,” says the Lord (Isaiah 43:6-7). To see it, to savor it, and to show it—that is why we exist. The untracked, unimaginable stretches of the created universe are a parable about the inexhaustible “riches of his glory” (Romans (9:23). The physical eye is meant to say to the spiritual eye, “Not this, but the Maker of this, is the Desire of your soul” (Romans 5:2). Or, even more precisely, he said that we were “prepared beforehand for glory” (Romans 9:23). This is why we were created—that he might “make known the riches of his glory for vessels of mercy” (Romans 9:23).

Holy Women Who Hope in God

A Short Excerpt from This Momentary Marriage (pp. 97) by John Piper:

9781433507120“She looks away from the troubles and miseries and obstacles of life that seem to make the future bleak, and she focuses her attention on the sovereign power and love of God who rules in heaven and does on earth whatever he pleases (Ps. 115:3). She knows her Bible, and she knows her theology of the sovereignty of God, and she knows his promise that he will be with her and will help her and strengthen her no matter what. This is the deep, unshakable root of Christian womanhood. And Peter makes it explicit in 1 Peter 3:5. He is not talking about just any woman. He is talking about women with unshakable biblical roots in the sovereign goodness of God—holy women who hope in God.”

Equipping You to Share the Good News this Christmas

The Crossway warehouse was busy on Friday filling orders for Share the Good News of Christmas! We’ve been encouraged here at Crossway as we consider the possibility that each one of these boxes translates to 50 people receiving a New Testament, a personalized invitation to local church, exposure to the gospel through a tract, and access to God’s entire Word through the ESV Study Bible Online.

This vision is for your neighbors, your co-workers, your friends, your families, and your churches—that the gospel may be proclaimed, that people would be connected to the local church, that Christ would be glorified as we celebrate the true joy of Christmas this year.

As you’ve been hearing our vision from behind the scenes of this program, we would like to continue hearing from those of you participating on the front lines. Feel free to submit your stories, ideas, feedback, or pictures to info@goodnewsofchristmas.org, or send us a link if you decide to share stories on your own blog. These can also be posted on our Share the Good News of Christmas Facebook page.
