Among the many different English translations available, the ESV is unique in a number of ways. As an “essentially literal” Bible translation, the ESV seeks to maintain word-for-word accuracy in translating the original Greek and Hebrew, while also retaining beauty, cadence, and readability in English.

Last spring, Wayne Grudem’s adult Sunday School class at Scottsdale Bible Church (and one other class) donated 654 ESV Study Bibles to be distributed to European Christian leaders from over 40 countries at the European Leadership Forum in Eger, Hungary, May 23-28, 2009. “These European leaders were thrilled to receive such an up-to-date, practical, comprehensive resource to help them in their various ministries,” said Grudem.
