Preaching the Gospel in the Philippines

The Philippines, like most countries right now, is experiencing a financial crisis. “Yet, by God’s grace, the church is thriving and many people are turning to God. Problems do make people think about God,” Pastor Ronald Failano reported. In fact, in August the church had a retreat in Zambales. Seven-hundred and fifty young people attended—-many of which put their faith in Christ and were baptized.

91Failano extended his appreciation for the ESV Study Bible as he prepared for the church’s new series on the book of Romans. “At the moment, I am reading Romans and preparing for my message on Sunday. It’s a very useful tool in that it contains so much information, maps, and background that I need. It’s like having everything I need in one study Bible.”

Join us in lifting up these leaders and the resources that have been entrusted to us—”Pray for me as I prepare and study God’s Word, that I may be faithful in preaching God’s Word,” asked Failano, “may the Lord continue to use Crossway in spreading God’s Word and making it understandable. May the Lord find us faithful as we do his will of sharing the gospel with others.”

The Trackback Contest Continues! We will be giving away a new ESV Study Bible every day through Wednesday 11/11/09. Here’s a reminder on how the contest works. As folks continue commenting into next week, we would like to see facebook, twitter, and the blog turn into a place to worship and thank God together. We encourage commenters to share how God has been faithful, good, loving, worthy of praise, gracious, just…(or share verses about his attributes).

  1. We praise God for His mercy in continuing to call out a people to Himself from all the nations:

I will say to the north, Give up, and to the south, Do not withhold; bring my sons from afar and my daughters from the end of the earth, (Isaiah 43:6)

  2. Definetley will be praying especially as hard as they have been hit. Would be nice for America to not force that country to stop subsidizing thier rice farms as this helped turn them from exporters to importers and mainly the reason why is so our subsidized farms and companies that own farms in other countries while we subsidize our farm industry making them less competetive but do not think those in our industry realize how as a second rate economy nearly third world. BTW, have traveled and preached there where I should have not gone as basically I am atarget aqnd never realized it. Am not a liberal and I just have people there I help support in a church and knowing this I just wish at this time for our country to be just in not forcing other countries to stop doing what we do hear. Don’t mean to preach but there is much more to the story many really do not know about and I somewhat do.
