Crossway hosted a Church Planting event at The Gospel Coalition back in April 2011. This video continues in a series of videos that considers the call to ministry.
- 0:23: What do you do when your wife isn’t ready for ministry/church planting?
- 3:35: It’d be really good to know your wife’s concerns.

Is there a way to hear from your wives about how they struggled through the call? My husband and I are struggling through the topic right now. I am terrified, yet wanting to trust that God will make me an able minister as we go. However, we are young and have much to learn, I feel. We serve as lay people in an addictions ministry at our church currently– the only ones really involved, I’d say, besides the pastor. He picked us out and asked us to head this ministry up with another couple, who ended up leaving the church.–I feel this is the external affirmation you have been discussing. Both my husband and myself feel most fulfilled when we minister– I love to counsel and he loves to preach and teach– which he is able to do now. I consider this the internal call or desire. I have two questions: what is my role if he does end up as a youth or senior pastor? and when are we “ready”? (what are some indicators?) Thank you so much for your time and consideration to reply.
