This Christmas Don’t Forget Free ESV E-Books!

One of our primary goals at Crossway is to make the Bible as widely available as possible in all media forms, including e-books. With more and more people trying e-books these days, there’s been an explosion of e-reader devices of all shapes and sizes, for every budget. And within a week or so many will find their way under Christmas trees. You might be giving or receiving one yourself.

If you unwrap an e-reader this year, one of the first things you’ll want to do is start loading it with great content. Did you know the ESV Classic Reference Bible is available for free in every major e-book format?

Download the ESV Bible in the available formats from Crossway’s website, or purchase directly from your e-reader device.* Kindle users can also download the free ESV Bible or the ESV Study Bible ($9.99) directly from Amazon.com.

Whether you receive an e-reader for the first time this Christmas, or have been using one for a while, make sure you load it with the free ESV Bible.

Merry Christmas!

*Note—at the time of this post, due to a glitch in the Nook bookstore, the Nook edition of the ESV Bible was not available for free. Until the issue is resolved, we recommend downloading the ePub file from the Crossway website and installing it on your Nook reader.

*UPDATE: The Nook bookstore has fixed the glitch. The ESV Bible is now available for free.

  1. I recommend that Crossway release a text only e-book of the ESV.

For instance, my wife and I use the ESV for Kindle (in our case) as a reader more than a reference book. We do not need to see the verse numbers at all, and often don’t even need the chapter numbers either. We grab the the Kindle ESV each morning to pick up where we left off.

A non-numbered ESV would be a great tool to add to Crossway’s collection. (See _The Books of the Bible_ for an excellent Bible without numbers: http://www.biblica.com/images/thebooks/pdf/TBOTBLuke-Acts_Sample.pdf)

    Thank you,
    Dustin

  5. Is the Nook edition of the ESV no longer free? The link above takes one to a nook edition costing $7.91.

  6. Tim, as you can see in the post and the comments, we’ve had this same issue with Barnes and Noble before. We’ll make sure it gets sorted out as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience!

  7. Thank you so much for promoting this great offer on this blog. I wish more people knew about this!!

I downloaded the ESV Bible for free from amazon. You don’t need to own a kindle. All you need is the kindle-for-desktop program installed on your computer and an amazon account.

I also downloaded the ESV Bible app for free on Itunes, so I can read it on my iphone. For those of you who don’t know, Crossway has made a free ESV Bible iphone app. If you use Youversion, Olive Tree, Logos Bible apps, you will have to pay to download the ESV bible for offline reading, but it’s free if you install the Crossway app.

And lastly, Crossway’s ESV study bible is amazing!!! I highly recommend it. There is a lot of background information which illuminates the historical/cultural context of each book. And there are timelines, maps, charts, diagrams, illustrations, etc. There are also cross-references. But most importantly, there are lengthy commentaries for ever couple of verses. It’s over 2,000 pages long!! Yet it’s easy to digest and very comprehensible.

The digital ebook version of the ESV study bible is less than $9 on Amazon.

You can also buy online access to the ESY study bible for $20. It’s a great deal.

  9. I prefer the esv for bible study, but on my ereaders I end up using the new king james because it’s epub file has accessible verse navigation in sub menus of the table of contents when you access a particular book, both on touch screen and non-touch screen readers. ,Can this feature be added to the epub and various other format files for free and pay that the esv comes in?
