Refo500

As a publisher of books in the tradition of the Protestant Reformation, Crossway reveled two years ago in the 500th anniversary of John Calvin’s birth. We now look forward to celebrating the 500th anniversary of the Reformation itself.

Herman Selderhuis, a Reformation scholar from the Netherlands, has organized an international effort called Refo500, and Crossway has signed on as a partner in this effort. Universities, publishers, and a variety of institutions in Europe and America are participating, each in its own way. Among other things being planned by Refo500 and its many partners are conferences, seminars, exhibitions, concerts, historic tours, and publications.

In only two years, for example, events will mark the 450th anniversary of the Heidelberg Catechism, a classic loved by all Reformed believers, but especially by those in the Dutch Reformed tradition.

Stay tuned for more news concerning Refo500 as it builds to a climax in 2017, the anniversary of Martin Luther’s nailing of his Ninety-five Theses to the church door in Wittenberg.

For a quick refresher course, meanwhile, check out Stephen Nichols’s book The Reformation: How a Monk and a Mallet Changed the World (Crossway, 2009). To keep up with Refo500, visit its website at www.refo500.com.
