Driscoll on “Christ and the Media”

Mark Driscoll recently spoke on “Christ and the Media” at Northwestern College in St. Paul, Minnesota.  The occasion was the 2008-09 Faith + Thought Lecture Series.

In his message, Mark contends that technology and media can be either obstacles or opportunities for the gospel, depending on how they are used. He provides an overview of how Christians have used technology and the media throughout church history, shares examples of what Mars Hill Church is doing in this vein, and follows up with some Q & A.  The entire audio runs about 1 hour and 26 minutes. You’ll find it to be a useful lecture on how the media of the day can help us get the word out about Jesus.

Here are a few examples that show Mars Hill’s innovation and the range of technologies they employ:

Introducing John Piper’s New Small Group Series

John Piper’s books–like God is the Gospel, Seeing and Savoring Jesus Christ, and When I Don’t Desire God–have impacted the lives of countless individuals. But what if you could explore these rich books with your small group, enabling all involved to benefit from both the teaching of the book and the dialogue that it generates?

That’s precisely what the new John Piper Small Group Series is designed to do. This new series from Crossway Books and Desiring God offers DVDs and study guides that correspond to key Piper titles in order to serve churches, small groups, and families even more effectively.

Each DVD contains six 30-minute lessons taught by Piper to help small groups explore gospel truths. The new study guides offer five daily assignments per week, complete with Scripture and key quotations from the corresponding book. Desiring God has designed these resources to be flexible so that each group can use the videos, study guides, and books according to what best fits their context.

The following titles are now available in the John Piper Small Group Series:

God is the Gospel

Seeing and Savoring Jesus Christ

When I Don’t Desire God
