In a town full of folks seeking to get rich quick, the Skinner family has already found their real treasure.

Alkali dust blowing throughout 100-degree days. Not a tree or blade of grass for fifty miles. Saloons line every block. Already overflowing with gamblers and gunfighters, the town is now flooding with prospectors and promoters, thanks to the latest gold rush. It is Goldfield, Nevada, in June of 1905. And it is no place for a family to settle.

O. T. Skinner and his family have no intention of staying more than a day or two--just long enough to replenish their water supply and buy a few groceries before continuing their journey to California. But . . . next to their tent is a family with a drunken father, the wife and children starving while he goes off in search of his next drink. Nearby an eccentric old lady insists she's sitting on top of a gold mine and won't let anyone come near her. And somehow the Skinners have found themselves in the middle of a deadly feud--and they've only been there one day!
