Longing for Sincerity: Cultural Change and Gospel Engagement in the Metamodern Age

Modern Culture Wants Something to Believe In. Are Christians Ready to Respond?

For decades, evangelism efforts were geared toward a cynical culture, one that claimed “there is no truth.” Apologetics books debated moral relativism. Believers practiced sharing their faith with apathetic peers. But something is changing. Younger generations are less skeptical; they’re desperately searching for meaning, values, and connection. If we ignore this cultural shift, we miss an opportunity to share the very truth they’re seeking.

Longing for Sincerity explains the rise of metamodernism, a “cautious hopefulness and sincerity which desires to reconstruct a meaningful world after the cynical years of postmodernism,” and considers how this view creates an open door for outreach. Studying philosophy, pop culture, and faith, pastor Benjamin Vincent shows that recent trends from social justice to superheroes point to people’s search for meaning. With biblical wisdom and a fresh, informed perspective, he equips believers to share Christ with a culture that’s ready to believe again.

  • A New Perspective on Evangelism: Considers cultural influences including postmodernism, deconstruction and reconstruction, political movements, subcultures, and more
  • Excellent Apologetics Resource: Helps Christians relate to their peers, understand their needs, and point them to Christ
  • Accessible: Clear and engaging guide on evangelism that’s accessible for pastors and laypeople alike
  • Great for Small Groups or Individual Study: Each chapter ends with questions for reflection and discussion
