First-of-Its-Kind Series Studies Thomas Aquinas, in His Own Words, for an Evangelical Audience

The Reformation marked a significant break from Roman Catholicism, but key doctrinal intersections between Catholics and Protestants remain. How can evangelicals embrace the wisdom of Christian thinkers throughout history while preserving distinctly Reformed theology?

The Engaging Aquinas series examines the work of one notable Catholic theologian, Thomas Aquinas, addressing continuities and discontinuities between his insights and Reformed doctrine. Through patient and careful critique of primary source texts, the series demonstrates how Christians can learn from fellow believers, even if we do not agree on every point. The first volume focuses on Aquinas’s work regarding sin, salvation, and the sacraments, helping evangelical audiences learn from this influential yet often misunderstood theologian.

  • Biblical: Covers topics including mortal and venial sin, justification, and final judgment
  • Comprehensive: Critiques the work of Thomas Aquinas in conversation with Reformed theologians, including Francis Turretin, Stephen Charnock, and Francis Schaeffer
  • Part of the Engaging Aquinas Series: Other volumes in the series will study Aquinas’s insights on Scripture, creation, Christology, and Christian virtue
  • An Excellent Resource for Professors, Seminary Students, and Readers of Aquinas: Examines essential doctrines from medieval and patristic history
