I know something wonderful that I must tell you! It’s so vital that it may change your entire future…it certainly changed mine! In fact, the decision you make about it will affect you in this life and after you die.

First, let me emphasize that what I’m about to tell you is absolutely true, because God said it in His book to us, the Bible. And when God makes a promise, you can count on it, because His promises can never fail. God will not make you believe this message—that’s your choice—but He will hold you responsible for your decision.

It’s a very personal message—something you alone can decide. You must say either “I will” or “I will not.” Here’s the message…it’s an exact quotation from the Bible: “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).

Did you ever hear such hope-filled words? Think about them: they reveal three amazing facts.

First, “God so loved the world”!

Since you are in the world, He loved you. If that doesn’t astonish you, remember that when God loved you, He loved a sinner! The Bible says that we “all have sinned and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). And if you are honest, you will agree.

Although God loves you, He still hates your sins. Since God is holy and must punish sin, He must make a just and righteous way of saving sinners. Otherwise the sinner would have to pay the penalty for his own sins, and that would mean spending eternity in hell (Revelation 20:15), forever separated from God.

The second great fact is this:

“He gave His only begotten Son”!

God loved you so much that He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to earth to become a man and die on the cross of Calvary (Luke 23:33) so that you can be saved. The penalty of your sins has already been paid, but you must believe it. “He that believeth in Him is not condemned; but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God” (John 3:18).

God gave His sinless Son Jesus to take the penalty you deserve. Jesus shed His own blood and died in your place, taking the punishment your sins deserve, so that you could have eternal life. “God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be saved…. Christ died for our sins” (John 3:17, 1 Corinthians 15:3).

And now, the third amazing fact:

“Whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life”!

Think of it…God gives eternal life to those who believe in Jesus Christ—who trust Him to be their “substitute”! Jesus did everything God required to save sinners from spending eternity in hell. He died, rose from the grave, and returned to heaven (1 Corinthians 15:3-8).

Now your part is to believe in Jesus as your Savior from sin’s consequences, “for [God] hath made Him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him” (2 Corinthians 5:21). This is the message that I had to tell you. It’s the most important decision I’ve ever made; it has changed my life and my eternal destiny.

Now you must make a decision: remember that your time on earth is just a matter of years, but your decision for Christ— made during your lifetime—lasts forever. Think of it once again: “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Will you accept Christ, or reject Him? Will you believe in Him, or refuse Him?
